El Festival de Cine de Tribeca fue creado en 2002
por el productor cinematográfico Jane Rosenthal
y por el actor Robert de Niro en respuesta a
los ataques del 11 de septiembre de 2001 y
la consecuente pérdida de vitalidad que sufrió
el barrio neoyorquino de Tribeca, con el fin de
contribuir a la recuperación a largo plazo de la
zona de Lower Manhattan.
Con más de 250 películas y más de 1000
proyecciones en 2006 y 2007, el de Tribeca se ha
convertido en uno de los festivales más prominentes
del mundo. Su programa ofrece a los asistentes una
gran variedad de filmes independientes, incluyendo
documentales, cortometrajes y largometrajes
narrativos, y un programa de películas aptas
para toda la familia. El festival también cuenta
con mesas redondas, donde se discuten diversas
personalidades del mundo del entretenimiento, y un
salón musical, producido en conjunto con ascap,
para permitir la exhibición de artistas consagrados
y novatos. Uno de los componentes más distintivos
del festival son sus premios Artists Awards, con los
que artistas emergentes y de renombre le otorgan
obras de arte originales a los ganadores de la
competencia. Algunos artistas que han colaborado
con estos premios son Chuck Close, Alex Katz y
Julian Schnabel.
Tribeca Film Festival was created in 2002, by the
