Pedro González Rubio nació en Bruselas y vivió
a los 16 años en India donde nació su amor por
la fotografía. En México estudió Comunicación
en la Universidad Intercontinental, donde
hizo teatro universitario. Antes de dedicarse al
cine, participó como actor en el musical
Fame
,
representado durante un año en el Teatro de
los Insurgentes. A los 24 entra en la London
Film School, donde conoce a Carlos Armella.
Juntos y de regreso en México hacen su primer
documental,
Toro negro
(2005) con el que ganan
el premio Horizontes a la Mejor Película en San
Sebastián y a Mejor Documental en el Festival
de Cine de Morelia. El segundo y último trabajo
juntos,
Common Ground
(2007), narra la labor
del director Alejandro González Iñárritu durante el
rodaje de
Babel
. Su debut individual como director
fue
Alamar
(2010), filmada en el Caribe mexicano.
Obtuvo más de quince premios internacionales
incluyendo el Tiger Award del Festival de Cine
de Rotterdam y a Mejor Director en el Festival
Internacional de Cine de San Francisco.
Inori
(2012) largometraje documental fillmado en una
pequeña comunidad de Japón y producido por la
cineasta Naomi Kawase, ganó el Leopardo de Oro
en la sección Cineastas del Presente del Festival
de Locarno. Su último film,
Ícaros
, producido
en Francia por la cadena de televisión Arte está
programado para estrenarse en 2014.
Pedro was born in Brussels, and lived 16 years in
India where his love for photography emerged.
He studied Communications at the Universidad
Intercontinental in Mexico, where he worked doing
college theatre. Before he began to work in the film
industry he had an acting role in the musical play
Fame
, presented for one year at the Insurgentes
Theatre. At the age of 24 he entered the London
Film School, where he met Carlos Carmella.
Together, back in Mexico, they made their first
documentary,
Toro negro
(2005), which earned
them the Horizontes Award for the Best Film at
San Sebastian, and The Best Documentary Film
at the Festval de Cine de Morelia. The second and
last work they made together,
Common Ground
(2007), narrates the work of Alejandro González
Iñarritu during the shooting of
Babel
. His first
individual debut as director was with
Alamar
(2010), filmed in the Mexican Caribbean. He has
received international more that 15 international
awards, including the Tiger Award of the Rotterdam
Film Festival, and for the Best Director at the
International Film Festival in San Francisco.
Inori
(2012) documentary feature film filmed in a small
community in Japan, produced by the filmmaker
Naomi Kawase, received the Leopardo de Oro
Award in the Filmmakers of the Present section of
the Locarno Festival. His most recent film,
Ícaros
,
produced in France by the television network Art, is
programmed to be premiered in 2014.
